I would like to see some photos of the Bay Ridge branch between the years of 1950 to 1970. Thanks.

Steve:

From your January request - albeit not a LIRR bunker - it is just north of the LIRR ROW in Babylon. I can't make out the name on the bunker (Burns Brothers?) The bunker is on N. Carl Avenue. This was taken from Railroad Avenue (Trolley Line Road) looking northeast in 1951.

CLiner: Thanks, you're a good man!  Smiley

On the Emery map MP 35-36 the Coal Silos north of REA Express House reads Dependable Fuel Co, below is perhaps: Babylon Fuel & Suppy Co. out 1924... Huh

So Burns Bros, location ANYONE?  Huh

Steve

Anyone have pictures from Belmont Park?

I've seen a total of 2 pictures of Belmont, 1 current, and an older photo from the Dave Keller collection.  I haven't seen photos with trains or passengers in the picture.

Maybe someone here is going to the Belmont Stakes and can take some photos.

I took this in 1974. I biked from Baldwin here to shoot them. They were stored here after race season awaiting conversion to push pull cars. I may have a few more views, but not showing the station area.

When was that taken?  I never knew Belmont to have a winter meeting.

The cars were moved here when the MP72s were retired. (1973?) They ended their careers on the West Hempsted branch. They were placed here for storage, since racing season was over, awaiting conversion to P72 coaches. I also have a photo of some stored at Blissville, they must have had to spread them all over the place!

I recall when the MP54's were retired, you could find them on sidings everywhere along the system!  I t was amazing how many of the old cars were stocked up and not ready for the scrap yards.  They would go in long strings, hauled by a Diesel, but you had to wonder if they'd make it.  The MP72's in Tim's photo look really well.  I'm surprise the railroad did away with them as early as they did, but I suppose the "appearance of modernization" was far more important to the MTA's goals at he time.

Well, the 72s just became coaches, for the most part, so they didn't really do away with them.
