Not sure if this should be here or in the general discussion thread, but here goes... I've been quietly travelling around building a photo archive, with the hopes of someday starting a website of my own with my pictures. Well, the day has come. I'm currently engaged in a project of photographing the various railroad stations on the Island. I'm starting with the Montauk Branch (since it's my home turf), and will be working my way around from there. These will all be current photos, since there I don't have any old stuff (plus there's now way I can compete with Dave Keller's and Steve's pages and the like... which is not my goal, anyway... a youngling cannot compete with a Jedi Master. I just want to show things from my own warped point of view...) I currently have pages for Bay Shore and Islip up and running, with more in the works (explained in more detail on the site.) Anyway, just wanted to offer a preview and to get anyone's input / suggestions, etc. (Before I screw 'em up too much.) There's a link to my e-mail on the pages, or anyone can PM me here. Thanks for the help. www.lirrpics.comOh, and many thanks to Steve for his help and input. He's enabled me to make them a lot better. (The first drafts really sucked... ) Hmmm... perhaps the first thing needed is maybe someone can help me come up with a better name for the site....

The link has changed... decided to spring for a domain name www.lirrpics.com Also, I've wiped them all out and started over. I tried viewing them on my computer at work (which is quite a bit slower than my Optimum Online Boost at home), and they took forever to load because of the way I did them. Figured they wouldn't be too enjoyable to anyone that way so, I went back to the drawing board. The Islip page should be up again later this evening... Live and learn...

I'm surprised there are no photos from the overpass in Sayville. It's only station on the Montauk Branch that has one. I like the elevated shots. One of my earliest shots was of a 1 car greenport scoot taken from William Floyd Parkway.

LOL. I went to yahoo and google to add your site to their database. After I did, I figured let me search for LIRR Photography at google, and your site is already listed!!! It's the second search result, right behind this site.

I've seen that... the dedication to my Uncle was something I took out becuase I didn't like the way it was worded, but I may put in back in some form. (It's in the Google description...) ** The only problem is the link doesn't work. Somehow (I didn't submit it), it got on there before I sprang for the domain name, so it shows up under the old geocities.com address, which doesn't work anymore. And when I just searched it, mine came up first...(it also comes up first ...and works... on a yahoo search.) How exactly does that happen? I didn't submit it to any of them, and was going to wait till I had more to do that. As far as pictures from the overpass go, I didn't say I wouldn't have some... (That fence is PIA, though....can't get any decent ones from the stairs, either...) If you like elevated shots , take a look at my sunset picture from a few nights ago if you haven't seen it yet ("Post a new photo every day" thread). ** Edit ** Well, I see it worked on your example... didn't work for me, though...

Yeah, that fence is a pain, but you can shoot at the bottom of it.

Update: 2/13 1:00 am (Man, I gotta stop this and get some sleep...)
Islip is the newest look on the pages so far. It has the black backgrounds with the pictures as well as with the main pages (for consistency), improved thumbnails and images (replaced all the images with new, better-looking ones thanks to a better way of resampling them), and text on both the thumbs and full-size pictures. I mentioned something in one of my other posts about keeping the thumbnails because I thought I'd have more of a slide show than a web page if I chose that route. Well, I added the slide show option, too. (Albeit manual, by use of arrow keys on the full-size image pages, so you don't have to go back to the thumbnail page to see the next picture.) I just have to eliminate the dead ends; I need to provide links back to the station pages and the main page on all the individual pages, so you don't need to hit the "back" button a gazillion times. But I'm all "clicked out" for tonight. Eventually, all the pages will be redone this way.

I must say I am very impressed with your page. You have nothing to apologies for with these all being recent pictures; even legendary Dave Keller took recent pictures, he just did that half a lifetime ago. These pictures will age with dignity.
Great work!
