Montauk page has been added...

http://www.lirrpics.com/Montauk.htm

Everything between Bay Shore and Westhampton, plus Montauk is now online (although some still need to be redone to the new look...) I have pictures for the rest of the stops, so pages for those will be coming soon as well.  (Except maybe for Hampton Bays, because the angle of the sun when I was there made for some very long shadows and the lighting was kind of harsh as a result.  I'll probably retake those one of these days...)

Pretty Cool. I like how you've got it laid out and organized. Wink

Amagansett page now online:

Had to take a bit of a break  for a while... finally getting used to the new progressive lenses.  Back to the Hamptons next...

BTW: if anyone wants any of these photos (for desktop backgrounds, etc) feel free to e-mail or pm me.  (You never know... some people may have lower standards... Grin)  The originals are much larger. (I downsize them for the pages... original size of all is 1504 x 1000.)

Hello Mike, This is really an impressive undertaking.  :)The website is so much "cleaner", I like the navigation, etc. Feels like a field trip.  Wink

BTW: http://www.lirrpics.com/  Glad you got a .com.

Best,
Steve

Two new pages online...

Branch Timetables
http://lirrpics.com/timetable.htm

DE - DM photo gallery (yeah, yeah, I know.... but someday we'll miss 'em...  Smiley)

http://lirrpics.com/diesels.htm

Got a few holes to fill on this one.... and I'm missing some of the dates 'cause these are some of the pics that are hiding on my inaccessible hard drive.  (The program I resized them removed the date the pic was taken...or maybe I did when I renamed them...).  I'll add the dates when I can recover those files (and I guess I'll add the black backgrounds, too one of these days...)

I wanted to run something up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes....

I've been building my site since January.  I currently have pages for all the stations of the Montauk Branch, a timetable scan collection, and a growing DE / DM photo gallery.  I know, I know... I'm not endorsing them, given their (no pun intended) "track" record, but they're what we've got at the moment.  Someday they'll be gone, and I want to help preserve what will be tomorrow's history. (as Dave Keller and Steve Lynch and others have done so expertly...)  Anyway, here's my dilemna:

Our house has been on the market since March, and it looks like we have a buyer (going through the mortgage and all the legal b.s presently).  Anyway, it potentially looks like we may be gone by the middle of September.  We'll be moving to the Charlotte, NC area.  So it looks like I'll only be able to post pictures in the "Other Railroads" section.

I've been a railfan since I was a kid (my Uncle was a conductor for the LIRR for 34 years; my interest began with him).  I love doing this and would like to continue to expand the site.  My problem is, I won't be around to take new photos for much longer if all goes as it appears it may be going at the moment.  If anyone likes the site (and I've heard a few people do, thanks  Grin) would anyone be interesting in contributing material?    I've seen a lot of fantastic photos out here, and would love to feature some of this quality of material on the site.  (With proper credit given to the photographer, of course.... as Steve has done with the material I've contributed to his site.)

I would like to eventually cover all the branches; I started with the Montauk because it's my home turf (and I thought I was going to be around for a few more years at least...)

Anyone interested?

Started construction of the Ronkonkoma Branch... here's a functional preview of the Greenport page.  It's the only one I've had time to build so far.
I  dropped the ball on this one...  I was in such a hurry to get back home before it started to rain that day, (I had to re-install the sliding glass door in the kitchen) that I completely forgot about the turntable...    Embarrassed    Gotta get back there one of these days...

Currently working on the Ronkonkoma Branch, and had a few questions about Mattituck... I've got pages for Greenport and Southold operational so far (mostly... few minor adjustments still needed)

http://www.lirrpics.com/ronkonoma_branch.htm

Anyway....

Was this a railroad-related building, or just something trackside?  It looks to me like there might be the remains of an r.o.w. for an additional track there, and from the older photos I've seen, there were other tracks here in the past.

Also, what was this thing?  Looks like some sort of weigh station scale to me...

It's fairly close to the tracks.... or at least if there was once another track here...

Didn't want to post these without knowing what to label them.... (or if I should include them at all.)
 Thanks...
Mike

Just an update:
Ronkonkoma / Greenport pages online: Greenport, Southold, Mattituck, Ronkonkoma, & Central Islip .   I have pictures of the rest of the stops, and all stops on the PJ from Syosset to Port Jefferson.   Managed to squeeze those in before I had to skip town...  Undecided
