Here is a typical 1962 to 1978 school bus I made. It is an International Loadstar with a 40/60 passenger Superior body. These busses were the workhorses of most LI school districts until the 1980s; kind of like Bluebird busses today. It is shown as a static object. I haven't tried it with the car spawner yet, but I think it might drive backwards. I need to get the hang of trainsim modeler. The scene location is the first crossing east of Kings Park station, Indian Head Road.

This is Huntington station looking east before electrification. I made a low level platform, and tried to copy that brown asphalt look. The C-liner has a redder nose than I remember. The parking lot needs hedges. I used "poplars" trees, but plan I on retexturing and reshaping a different shade trees. One can't see it in this pic, but the platform has a yellow stripe - on the wrong side.

Over the weekend I made a few early 1900s two-story wood commercial buildings. All happen to be from Kings Park, but they typical LI structures. Many are still around. The texture of the left building is off. The windows are blocked by the porch. The prototype was restored in 2006. The texture on the right building could be finer grained. I ended up using only about half of the 512x512 pixel paint document. Also shown are a 15 foot and a 40 foot Eastern Redcedar. Behind the buildings are a couple of deciduous trees which have had their lower branches cut. They are intended to be oaks near the rr right-of-way.

Here is a different scenery object. It is a 1960s and 70s White Compact cabover oil delivery truck. It is painted in a slightly non-standard Gulf Oil scheme.

I replaced the US2twostory houses with these. They are supposed to look more typical LI houses from the 50s and 60s. I changed the roof of the cape to black/dark gray after I took the screen shot. I forgot that brown roof shingles were uncommon until the 80s. The route itself is about ready again to beta test. I upgraded Wyandanch, Bethpage, just east of Greenlawn, Pilgrim woods, some Smithtown, and a few other areas. I just want to ride the whole route to check for bugs.

Re: roof colors ca. 1950. When my cousin and I were something like 5 years old, my mother drove us past a housing development and we two started chanting "a red roof and a green roof and a red roof and a green roof....." That's the way it was.

Alchemist: Thanks for the info. I had the impression from somewhere I can't remember that red and green roofs were popular in the mid 1900s. But 1950 was a little before my time. My house had a green roof in the 1960s. (The house actually dates the 1840s, but obviously the original roof was not green asphalt shingles.)

Here is Northport station. I am using the Dutch Colonial for Mineola and Huntington, too.

Kyle: I downloaded the MP15 and a red white and blue C420, but I haven't run the game yet. The platform is homemade, and I need to reduce the longitudinal streakiness. Here is another scenery object. It is a 1988 or so FWD-Seagrave pumper. It is similar to, but not the same as, 1970 to 1981 Seagraves. They were rather common around the island.

I uploaded a copy of the route to LIRR168 yesterday, but it needs to be checked to be sure everything uploaded properly.

Here is a little object that was often in the background in the 1960s. It is a Wayne street sweeper. Anybody old enough to remember these?

Geezuz, those old street sweepers used to scare the hell out of me when i was three or four. They still kinda creep me out looking at the picture.

I remember them when I was younger, I always liked them, thought that they were cool looking. However, since I grew up in Farmingdale, they were two shades of blue, town of BAbylon colors.

I don't know why I was fascinated with street sweepers, snow plows, school buses, etc., but also don't know why I was fascinated with trains either. The lemon yellow and gray was the manufacturer's standard, but I have seen them in other colors, too. This one was recolored from a dull blue-green one I photographed in Deer Park in the 80s. Here are two vehicles I updated. Anyone from the Port Washington or Kings Park area might remember Lewis Oil trucks from the 60s and 70s. The galion roller has painted sides of the drums, plus a seat and struts for the front drum. The one in the route (version 117) has blue sides to the front drum because I could not figure out how to get sides textured without ruining the front. Most people here are more interested in the trains, understandably, but if anyone cares to get either of these updated scenery objects, please send me a pm.
