I saw this on Newsday's website about the USS Intrepid Museum being moved to Bayonne for a 2 year overhaul. It looks like the LIRR trains lined up to salute it as it sailed by!

Sure does look like a car up on the high line. Question is...how did it get up there!!??....it wasn't there the last time I was in west side yard about 6 months ago. The High Line is phyically disconnected from any rail line. The 33rd street end goes down the ramp to the parking lot for trucks and the downtown end just ends above the street.

Actually, looks like there are several objects there (there is a distinct break in the roofline), and they appear to have flat roofs. Might they be work trailers such as used by foremen at a worksite?

That yellow thing is NOT on the high line, as that's property of CSXT and it is actually located west of WSHY on the west side of 34th st.

...huh?
The Highline starts at the northern end of West Side at grade, curves around the west end elevating till it begins its treck downtown at the south end of the yard. Im pretty sure the deal with CSXT donating the RoW ( H/L ) to the city was finalized being that restoration to park status begain last month. One section was completly stripped and gutted so far. Ill post the link to photos later on..
They did lift equipment up to the top of it..

All rail sections have been mapped and tagged prior to removal Rails, tagged in yellow to indicate their original location
Why are they going through all this? Are they going to renovate it?

alcoAl:
I like your analogy of a L.I.R.R. salute to the Intrepid. I find it ironic that this "salute" appears in a publication that seems to be very critical of the L.I.R.R. Who is credited with this photo? Again, ironic if it was a Newsday photographer.
