Anthony, I am a member of the OBRM, and frankly, my time was so limited that I could only spend about two hours there before I had to get back to Larchmont. It's a long story, and a dull one. When I come down again, I'll try to take the Orient Point Ferry, how's that?

Another great day in Oyster Bay!! Started early today-we wanted to finsh up the 2 drive rods from last week and were able to start 2 more this week. We also finsihed needle scaling the pilot truck and got a full coat of primer on it. Luckily, we were able to also get the "heart rockers" freed on the pilot truck as well. This was a concern on the part of Steam Operstions Corp. our locomotive contractor as he felt is was frozen and would be difficult and time consuming to get freed up. We got very lucky as it only took 2 weeks to get to this point. We also went back to working on the turntable. Well, the motor frame to be exact. We were able to needle scale the frame assembly and got about 1/2 way done before we called it a day. No work session next week-as it will be an out of state salvage trip. We will finish up the frame on Saturday June 26th along with the 2 new drive rods. Will post then. MADDOG

An unusual work day for OBRM.
Todays work session didn't occur in Oyster Bay, instead, many of our intrepid volunteers took a road trip to Boonton NJ where, as everyone knows, there are a gaggle of ex-LIRR "PINGS". With prior permission, we salvaged as much as we could from all of the cars, while at the same time, the URHS of NJ was salvaging parts and lumber from the ex-CNJ Blue Comet observation car. There was a lot of mahogany and interior parts that they were already removing when we got there.
Just so everyone is clear on this. The scrapping will begin very shortly and everything that could have been removed, HAS been removed. From what I was told today, it will be done on site and the steel will go over the road, not by rails. I tell you this so there aren't a million -ridiculous and erroneous postings on any web forums. This info has come straight from the "dogs" mouth! MADDOG

Why didn't we see you in Riverhead and Greenport? You went that far, why stop there?
No need to get snarky.

DTA-I wasn't trying to be snarky! I just recall seeing a lot of useless and unnecessary drama on this & other forums after something BIG is said, so I was just trying to head things off at the pass. That was all. If I offended anyone, my apologies. MADDOG

Believe it or not, I only took a couple as I was walking back & forth from car to car between removing items. I was there to work and after spending almost 3 hours just trying to remove 5 ceiling fans, the last thing on my mind was taking pictures! go to photobucket and look for thewineguy35 albums. There is an album with about 5 photos of us working. Sorry! MADDOG

Hund-meister del Vino, I realize your purpose was to salvage from the P54's, but somebody should make time to record what was recovered and how it was done. In the long run, it'll make little difference, but for a museum, it's easy enough to store the records on a CD. Get any luggage racks? I remember when the LIST guys were given permission to tear into the last heavyweight parlor cars, they came home with brass luggage racks, parlor car seats, fixtures, and lights, and signs. You name it. The RR was pleased to cooperate, too.

As the day was HOT HOT HOT!!-we just wanted to get in, get on and get out. Pictures were the last thing on our minds. The luggage racks that were in the cars were the new style aluminum racks like those in the p-72's. We have a few of the old style turned steel racks that were donated a few years ago. We did get some light fixtures and a lot of the light globes and of tcourse the fans and a toilet. Manual labor is a great thing aint it? MADDOG
