new station?

somebody told me they are going to put a new station what do you think? this is by 48street and 38ave in long island city

This is in front of the former perfume factory which has been converted into a Korean church. The area at the base of the new retaining wall has been used as a parking lot for the church. Been wondering myself what's up here.

Don't get me started on the "preservation" of what used to be a classic building whose design was supposed to be retained  by the new owners. Bah!

I believe that retaining wall is is going to hold back the ground widening the ROW so the lines to ESA can be installed and lead tunnels under Sunnyside drilled.
I was told that All that AC  centenary is to be replaced with a new rigid tension centenary.

They will be building a new Sunnyside station. I'm not exactly sure where in relation to the picture.

the location is on 37th avenue between 43rd st and 48th street
 i used to work in the fragrance company it was called naarden international
the building was formally a foundry company it was an award winning building
 i was there for 11 years  i did park my car in that parking lot
i took pictures there for years before amtrak fenced it up

ive noticed since october the work going on there  i m not certain if this is
going to be a station 

i still want to get out there any see how its going

im a bit confused about a station at this location

will this location be like other stations  passengers getting on and off

this area is a distance from queens blvd about 3 long avenues to get to the 7 train
on the other end by 48th street the q104 bus runs every half hour
and its a small trip to broadway and 48th street for the r-g-and v trains
this location isnt exactly the best for a station
so lets see how it turns out

by the way many lirr riders still miss the tower clock that was on the
old frangrance building  the korean church took it down

Hi John,

I don't think the location makes much sense either but the thinking is that this will offer LIC residents a more direct route to Midtown and (to quote Bloomberg) "stimulate the regrowth of the area."  Personally, I would still be inclined to use Hunterspoint Ave and the 7 connection there.  While it would be nice to have a one-seat ride to the East Side, I wonder how much longer the commute time will be considering the somewhat roundabout route into GCT.

If the fare was the same as the subway it would be an upgrade for area residents.
If they charge like it's from Jamaica, then I don't see the locals leaving the subway.

Good question, rs3.  Presumably, they would charge the fare for traveling within Zone 1, which is $6.50/4.50 for Peak/Off-Peak.  If that's the case, I too would opt for the subway ride.
