Not to belabor the subject, but I wanted to share my winter projects with you folks.
Reading 1179 has had significant plumbing alterations.  She is a coal burner, but has not yet been fired in the 2010 season.  The paint scheme is as close to what I believe is historic, with the exception of the black smokebox door and bronze number plate.

The BAR refrigerator car is a working refrigerator, kept cold with ice, like the real cars, and used for holding beverages and lunches.

The LIRR N22 caboose was built last summer, in memory of my friend and mentor, John W. Brace, a great live steamer and generous man.  The roof opens as a tool car.

I didn't steam 1179 today, but she'll be the primary motive power on our annual steam up day, June 26th.  If you're in the neighborhood of Cherryfield, Maine, please drop in.  If you have your own live steam equipment, 7.25" gauge, bring it along.

The man in blue now helps her through
and tells her when her train is due.
He's so polite.
They do things right.

Says Mrs. Glueck,
I must confess,
Your hobby leaves your clothes a mess,
You should sleep in your truck tonight,
For burning all that anthracite.
