I am building a model of an AGEIR boxcab as used on the LIRR between 1925 and 1951. I'm building in 1-1/2" scale (1:Cool. It will be powered by 4 electric, motors and on-board storage batteries. I have many photos and some drawings, but the drawings are pretty rough. I've made new construction drawings, but there are parts of the engine that don't show up very well in photos or drawings, so I'm guessing a lot of dimensions and details. Most of the information has come from the Berliner site. I probably have a good 90% of the details. Details that are missing are the details of the rooftop radiators and the rooftop in general including location and size of exhaust mufflers. I'm not sure if the mufflers were inside the cab or outside on the roof. Some pictures show them on top. The power trucks are built. That leaves the cab. Any help as to where I can find details would be appreciated. Factory drawings would be great. My only option is to visit the B&O museum or the Museum of Transportation in St Louis and get the dimensions from the actual engine. I live near the Mississipi coast, so a trip would be long and expensive.
This is my first visit and post to this site. Although I now live in Mississippi, I grew up close to the LIRR tracks (Jamaica). I would go down to the tracks and watch the E-6's, DD-1's and the new FM diesels go through their paces. That was in the late 50's-early 60's. The LIRR has a long and distinguished history which makes it one of my favorite railroads. I also like the PRR, NY Central, NY NH & H. My interests are in electrics and early diesel-electrics. I find that working with electric and diesel prototypes is more realistic when it comes to operation. Steam engine models running with an electric motor just doesn't turn me on. Live steam is a different story. I did that also for a while, but proved too expensive. I scratch build everything. My workshop is equipped to do woodworking, metal working, welding; anything required.

Ron:   There are a number of good sites to check out, but I would advise Dave Keller's LIRR photos, and Steve Lynch's as well.  Both are hosted by "Trainsarefun".  I don't have the links right available.  I started a live steam of the 403A, but haven't done much in two years.  I'd like to know more about you propulsion system.  Send pictures as you develop the locomotive, please!

Steve's site: http://www.trainsarefun.com/

You need info on the cab interior?  I don't think I have anything LIRR-specific, but I have some information about the CNJ prototype that the LIRR was based on.  I'll dig it out if you think it will be helpful.
