Howdy Folks,

With summer tomorrow there is much progress at the Railroad Museum of Long Island(RMLI) Riverhead Museum. Restoration continues with our projects while visitors come and enjoy the history of Long Island

Caboose C-68
After much work completed in the fall of 2009, Project Manager Anthony DeBellis(me) solely in 10 started the summer season off with some fresh paint on 68. On Saturday 68 got a second coat of gloss black paint on the roof with safety orange on her car body with some black also applied to the under body and some other details. As you can see she looks amazing, with only a few more days of minor detail work remaining. A once brown caboose is once again in her proud Dashing Dan Era orange.

Progress continues with the museum's operating locomotive. Rot has been cut out of the locomotive's cab with new pieces of metal cut with some already welded back into place. Rot has also continued to be removed from the inside floor of the cab. A box that helps to protect the engine's motor was also removed and cleaned up with it's shape made into a better rectangle. When the LIRR put a new engine in, it was bigger then the old one so a small box was added so it would fit properly.

Once an eye soar is now one the best looking things on the property. The entire building had been painted with added details to come. More recent pictures to come in the next report

Volunteers are always welcome! Visit our website for all our most recent projects. We are moving a full throttle and we are not stopping.

Well done, Anthony.  How many other workers were on site?

I had myself working on C-68, one man working in the morning on 399, another man working on the LIONEL exbit hall in the morning ::)then 4 other people running the gift shop/worlds fair train/museum stuff/other displays. Since I was close enough I ran the world's fair train when needed, so we survived. Would of liked one more person to give tours though.

Got the third and final coat of paint on the caboose today. Took some pixs but they look exactly like the ones I posted before so I won't upload unless anyone really wants to see em. She is looking great! Hopefully it will be done in a few weeks. Now I have to work on the touch ups and the handrails/steps, with Dashin Dan and letter of course!

Come out to the Railfest to see her all done(I hope, I am only one man with really no help. The sooner 68 is done the faster 1556 and Car 7727 get paint on them. Grin)
