Anyone aware of current or past production models of 4 dome tank cars? If the cars can be located and interest is there, the decal project is possible for:

Thanks Wink

I've asked around some... doesn't seem to be a model that was ever made.  It's probably an ICC 103 (insulated around the tank and domes).  Do you have the reporting marks info?

This greybeard doesn't recall seeing such a model. 1-, 2- and 3-dome tanks have been around, but not 4-dome. Model Railroader had a 6-dome wine car as one of their Dollar Car Projects many moons ago. Looks like we're SOL on this one.

Found out AHM made a five dome wine tanker years ago.  That's about it.  I spoke to Steve Funaro about it (of Funaro & Camerlengo fame - they produce a line of resin kits including LIRR Ping Pong cars and P72 coaches), and his comment was it is such a rare car that he couldn't see producing a kit for it since the market would be so small.

If we can get a better photo the decal fellow will do them.

Two great shots of the West Chemical Products cars. The first was the four dome and the second was the three dome car. The shots show most all of the markings pretty clearly. Both photos were taken by Frank Szcahacz and are in the soft cover book "Classic Freight Cars, Vol 2, A rolling pipeline of colorful tank cars" by John Henderson

Does anyone have access to this book and can scan these two shots for the decal project? Thank you! Smiley

4-dome

6-dome

From the Site linked below.

The 4 dome looks like the one on the stink track.
Send an email to this museum and see if they have more information/photos from different angles of this car.
What other companies used this type of tanker? Maybe limited edition run from Athearn could be discussed? A broader market base?

Unless the car had some modifications made there are differences between the two pictures.  There is one ladder on the West Chem car, two on the other.  There are vent pipes ( I think they are for ventilation ) on the white car, none on the West Chem car.

Differences aside, this is the only thing I found that looked remotely close to the West Chem. car.
The links did not specify any work done to the car to prove if the vent's and ladders were a later rebuild or part of the original builders plan.
No other photos on the web if the West Chem. car either.
It would be a nice tank to have on a layout.

As always, if the interest is there, we can produce a model of this car. We would need some better photos or drawings or even just some ballpark dimensions.
