Can anyone tell me what happened to the rpo and express cars at Jamaica when they came in from Montauk, Greenport, Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson etc? Was there a mail/express facility there or would the cars continue to Penn Station?
Dale.

Dale.

There was a mail facility east of the station, as one headed towards the Richmond Hill storage yard.  It resembled a very large freight house with platform and overhanging eaves. U. S. Postal Department mail office and high level mail platform. New:  1957. http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirrphotos/rpo/lirrRPOservice.htm  Research: Dave Keller

yes they were. The Railway express buildings were on the east end of sunnyside.
When I retired in 2006 some of the brick from the buildings were still evident
