I like this site, and I think we are going to be ok.
I have done my share of letting people know about this site. Things might start out a bit slow, but as others learn about it, it will blossom.

I don't know what happened to the last site, I only hope we're able to keep otto outy of our hair. He doesn't like competition, does he?

LIRRConductor: Agree and hope so! Smiley
Towerman25: Let's ignore the old place, less said perhaps is better! Smiley Just gives folks a chance to start a non-LIRR thread.... Sad

I try to add something to my posts of interest: LIRR Instruction Car #179 Steve Hoskins Photo

I heard otto tried to barge in to PD tower before it got closed, and he was thrown out like he should have been. I agree, the less we involve folks like him, the better.

Ah the infamous Training car. Where many Conductors and Engineers qualified.
I took my Brakemans test In a Car like that, dont know if it was that one, but it was in that location in July 1973. That was the extent of the RR training facilities at the time. We had a classroom car, and an airbrake car, both located on the east end of yard D in Jamaica. I remember some RR "Cartoons" posted on the walls of the car, lampooning RR Definitions. One said CONDUCTOR and showed an orchestra conductor, another said BLOCK and showed childrens blocks.
Another said, "Before I worked for the RR I could not even spell Engineer, now I are one".
By the time I qualified as Conductor, the Training cars were in Johnson Ave yard, and we also had classrooms Babylon yard, located in trailers.  Now we have actual classrooms in The Hillside Facility.
