From Pennsy and Goodfellow days, my old man always called it a "crummy".

FYI- The caboose (hack) found in Lindenhurst, #53, was donated by the Friends of Locomotive #35. It was trucked from Mitchel Field by Steve Krisman & Specialized Industrial Services to Irmisch Park and put on display on a piece of track that was rehabbed by some of the men from the LIRR track dept. (volunteers) and the FOL#35 group. The Lindehurst Historical Society is worth a visit in the Summer. Some nice goings on at the site.

No, it is still there, no one ever asked, so I didn't bother with the number. I passed it everyday for the last three years going to work, but we moved yesterday so I won't be passing it anymore. I will stop by this weekend and get the number or a picture. It is in the LIRR employee facility in West Babylon, the other side of the track is Lindenhurst, that's where I worked, saw many a train! I can tell you that it is fifty something and is painted orange and is a N-22 series.

Hi,

It's likely #51 (C51), built in 1958.

Thanks, Roger

Hi,

A few LIRR cabooses have escaped the Empire State:

As mentioned earlier, #29 is in poor shape in Maine, #58 is in Chattanooga, TN, either #62 (NY&A C62) or #65 (NY&A C65) is in Indiana, and #67 is in Roanoke, VA!

Does anyone know which one went from Fresh Pond, NY, to Indiana?

Thanks, Roger, in Cortez, CO

Hi Steve,

Here's some info I received early this month:

"LIRR C-67 (Now VGNX 67, Ex-RRCX 67 as shown, and Exx-BRRX) This caboose
was part of the Blue Ridge Railroad Club of Salem, VA, that is now disbanded.
LIRR C-67 is now owned by Eddie Mooneyham and is stored on the Sleepy Hollow
Siding in West Roanoke, VA.  The cabs friction bearing trucks have been replaced with rollers to ease it's movement by NS when necessary."  Steve Smith, Roanoke, VA

I'll see if Steve will let me forward a photo of the car to you.

Cheers, Roger

P.S. #62 or #65 went to the Louisville & Indiana Railroad (LIRC), Jeffersonville, IN.

"... either LIRR 62/NY&A C62 or LIRR 65/NY&A C65 is now in Indiana."

Hi

Does anyone know which of the above cabooses is still in Fresh Pond, NY?

This, of course, will tell us which one went to the Louisville & Indiana RR (LIRC), Jeffersonville, IN, a sister road of the NY&A.

Thanks, Roger

Hi,

A friend of mine said, "I did a trace on the car, and it said that "LIRC 105" was in Jeffersonville, IN,
on the LIRC, having been released from bad order status on 2/18/07."

Thanks, Roger

I also witnessed Hack 54 slammed into the dirt at the end of the track it is on.  It has damage to parts in the undercarriage such as the coupler and steps.
