A break from railroading on LI finds this at Republic Airport for the Jones Beach Air Show. USAF Thunderbirds No 1 taxiing out for today's show. FYI, they have 8 planes and 6 fly in the show. Today No 3 started its engine, but during the checks, it must've had a problem because they shut it down, moved the plane's number to the 7th plane (the second one from the left) and the pilot flew the backup plane. Happy Memorial Day everyone!!

I was at the show today.  It was awesome.  The B1 bomber was something to see.  It shook everything as it climed with it's afterburners on.  The vintage WWII aircraft is always a pleasure to see in the air.  There was a lancaster, a B17 Flying Fortress, Hap Arnolds B25, 2 P40's, and a P51.  There was also an F86 Saber.

I see & hear them fly right over my house, some sight! But, lets not forget what today is all about. Whether you agree or not with this 'war', support the brave troops. And lets not forget the veterans of all wars. I also salute all of the vets that 'hang' here on this forum.
On a personal note, a salute to my late father, a vet of WW II.

The B1 is an awesome machine.. anything that can do over Mach 1 at 200 feet up (terrain-following) is nasty.  If they were after you on the ground, you wouldn't hear them until you were already toast.

On the other side... I think of a college roommate shot down May 18, 1972 in Viet Nam (second seat on an F-4 Phantom).  MIA until 1988.

And my late father was a WWII veteran in North Africa.  Only.. umm.. well... he was on the other side  Wink
