Monday I spent my lunch hour pouring through LIRR reports from the 50s thru the last few years. Of course I now can't remember much of what I read, but here are some trivia. In a 1993 report: 83% of the passengers at Penn are from the LIRR, but the LIRR gets only 38% of the usage at the station. A 1980s report: Penn handles more passengers per year than Kennedy, Laguardia, and Newark, combined. There were tables showing the time slots thru the tunnels and at the platforms. The trains per hour capacity of the tunnels from north to south were 20, 25, 20, and 25. One report showed that there were to be 6 dual mode trains wb and there were to be 23 DEs and 15 DMs. The 6 DM trains were to be inaddition to the MUs; 42 trains per hour in Penn vs. 36 tph.

A couple of other tidbits that readers might be interested in came to mind. First was a suffolk county freight map that looks like the 1966 one that some people have. It had a few more customers, so I figure it is older. It also listed the freight service. For example, the Port Jeff branch had eb service on MWF, and wb on Tue/Thu/Sat. A second item was a freight study from around 1980. The RF numbers were shown, as were loadings or deliveries for each station for the year. The Smithtown team track had 1 and Smithtown lumber only 6. KP State Hosp had 384 iirc. The biggest customer by far was in CI. I presume Waldbaum. I don't remember the number, but it dwarfed everyone else. Either nothing or not much for Prima Asphalt for some reason.
A separate item. I regret trashing some LIRR freight forms from the 70s someone gave me a few years ago. They were computer printouts of pickups and setoffs for the day for RFs on the Port Jefferson branch. Not many cars; typically 3 to 8 per ticket. I remember Syosset and Huntington seemed to have more action than other stations. I guess the conductor was given these tickets at the start of a day, and he would plan and execute the moves accordingly. If anyone has any of these they would like to post, I think quite a few members of the forum would appreciate it.
