Modeling the Lower Montauk Branch in HO

Hey all!,

I will be in NYC during the first week in August. I was planning on getting out to Mineola for a day of train watching. Is it a good place for frequent movements? Is it photographer friendly? It has been many years since I have been back to the Island.

Any recommendations for any other locations? What can I see moving on the Lower Montauk these days? I will be staying at my sister's place...walking distance to Pond Yard. What times does the NY&A run lately? I know...sorry...a bunch of common questions, but it has been a long time since I set foot near the LIRR.

                                       Thanks...

Mineola Has a lot of trains to OB,Montauk and stuff like that.A lot of trains come through there, and yes,it is both photo and video friendly Smiley You maybe be able to catch a Westbound NYA from Pine Air siding(RS51 and RS81).The 51 could be there from anywhere between 10PM-1AM and the 81 from anywhere from 11PM-2AM then they head out east in the early morning.

Peter,

I will probably be in Mineola on Friday, August 3rd. More than likely in the morning. I will be the guy in the bib overalls and a CSX hat. Stop by and say "hey"!

Woodhall,

Thanks for the info on the freight movements. I doubt I will be there in the middle of the night though. That is bummer that they don't do any day time moves. Mineola sounds like a good place to go. Thanks for the advice.
